goodbye 2020, hello 2021

Well as most of you know, 2020 was a crazy year. What happened in our country and the world was unprecedented to put it mildly! Between "the lockdown", political craziness, mechanical issues with our rig, and sick parents; it was not the "adventure" we had planned. But as a believer I know that we make our plans and God orders our steps.

We moved back into our 5th wheel on December 15th and drove to Georgetown to finish out the year and prepare to travel to Arizona to help my Dad. We weren't sure what we were going to encounter with my parents because my mom was moved into a facility about 50 miles away from their home, and my dad was traveling there every day! It's heart wrenching to watch the struggle! Fortunately we didn't have to go it alone, my brother and his wife, coming from California, met us there and we worked together to give support to our parents.

My parents home is in a RV community and they have hookups for two RV's right on their lot! This made it easy for us all to be together and help my folks out. We also took some time to enjoy the area. My brother and his wife enjoyed some golf and Papawizzy and I did some hiking and bike riding. We also took a side trip to Quartzsite and Lake Havasu City before coming back to my dad's.
Quartzsite is somewhat of a rite of passage for RV'ers. It is a small town in the middle of the Arizona desert and RV'ers go there in the winter to enjoy dry camping (boon docking), off roading and a big RV show. While there, Papawizzy and I learned more about dry camping (no electricity, water or sewer). We purchased a generator and got our rig set up for portable solar panels. It was quite an experience and lots of fun. We met up with a few more couples and did a "circle the wagons" type of set up in the desert. Some of our new found knowledge includes; using a generator, setting up the solar, making coffee in a percolator, conserving water and tank space. Yep we're newbies, but now we feel more comfortable with boon docking!

Lake Havasu City was beautiful! It was an unexpected pleasure. My brother and his wife were needing to get back home, but the weather wasn't cooperating. There was lots of snow and ice forecasted for their route home, so they booked a couple days at the Lake Havasu State Park. We were still in Quartzsite and had a few more days to stay there (for free, I love free!), but they were telling us how beautiful it was and it was only about 80ish miles away, so we said why not and heading that direction. Wow, I'm so glad we did! The campsite was amazing, very clean and well kept. They had electric and water hookups, so we could use our coffee maker!! The town of Lake Havasu City was very nice. It is the home of the London Bridge - yes the real London Bridge that was falling down! It was moved there piece by piece and reconstructed in Lake Havasu City.

(From Wikipedia _ London Bridge is a bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. It was built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. It was dismantled in 1967 and relocated to Arizona. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge, which was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch from the City of London. McCulloch had exterior granite blocks from the original bridge numbered and transported to the United States to construct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community he established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. The bridge was completed in 1971 (along with a canal), and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City. The "rededication of the London Bridge took place on October 10, 1971.)

We spent several days with my bro and sis-in-law enjoying the city, eating good food and watching beautiful sunsets!
So we are back at my folks place enjoying the mild winter weather while back home everyone is freezing with crazy weather! We're spending time visiting my mom and listening to the stories of the past from my dad while he processes the pain of dealing with the final chapter with the love of his life. I'm glad we can be here for them !

Blessings to you all,
Mamawizzy

What home looks like now!
