a little piece of Texas

So now that we own a little piece of Texas, what do we do with it?  Oh the possibilities are endless! Of course we will build a house. We will have chickens, and a garden, and possibly some goats! 

I am speaking in positive prose because even though it is going to take us a while to get there, I believe that we were blessed with this property for a purpose.  I'm really not sure what it is specifically, but that is part of the adventure.  

I have always dreamed of having property where I could have livestock and a garden, but I never thought it would happen.  One of the best experiences of my life was having horses as a teenager. It taught me a lot about responsibility and caring for animals. At one point I wanted to be a equine veterinarian, but alas I didn't manage that. Over the years I have read many books about farming and raising livestock, but I was never able to actually do it.  That's the funny thing - I would get excited about trying to do this, but then something would distract me. Something like a job and raising kids and money!  You know. . . life!

For me that's the interesting thing about dreams, they are always there. Sometimes brewing in the background and sometimes in the forefront.  I have talked myself out of pursuing this so many times that I really started to doubt that it would ever happen.  I questioned the validity of it. Asked myself what would be the purpose in it?  Is it really that important?  We're too old to do something like this! How would this glorify God?  And you know what I finally came to - if the Lord has provided the opportunity then I need to take it!

So we find ourselves at the beginning of a new adventure.  Excited, nervous and unsure of how it will all work.  But I will trust that as in all aspects of my life, the Lord has a plan and I will take it one step at a time.
